Ultrasonic or Reed: Two Different Jobs
People often treat ultrasonic diffusers and reed sets as competing products. They are not really. They solve different problems and plenty of homes end up with both.
What an ultrasonic unit gives you
An ultrasonic diffuser uses water and a vibrating plate to throw a cool mist into the air. You get scent quickly, you control when it runs, and you can change oils whenever you like. The trade-off is that it needs water, cleaning and a power socket.
What a reed set gives you
A reed diffuser is passive. Rattan sticks draw oil up from a bottle and release it slowly. There is nothing to switch on, nothing to plug in and nothing to clean. Scent output is lower and steadier, and you cannot turn it off, which is exactly why it suits a hallway or a bathroom.
A simple way to decide
If you want to notice a change in a room within a few minutes, buy ultrasonic. If you want a room to smell consistently pleasant without thinking about it, buy reeds. If the room is a bathroom, reeds usually win on practicality alone.
